An unsightly sight!

As I sipped my morning coffee in attempt to wake-up, I caught a quick glimpse on F2's, Tele Matin which startled me a bit. I wiped my eyes to see if I was dreaming, but no... I was wide awake! This may be somewhat old news to some of you out there, but to me... it's new news and not-so-good news, at that! The topic was the revamping of Paris most famous landmark, la Tour Eiffel! Apparently, it's supposed to have a remarkable change, not sure when... but here is the proposed "new look." Is this a Yay or Nay for you?? Frankly, I don't think they should change it at all, but that is just my opinion. What do you think about this? Here are the photos, I'll let you decide!

WOW, like that new chapeau you got there!!! NOT!!!

Change the Eiffel Tower? What's next?

Changing the antiquated labor rules?

I heard about this a few days ago and I just felt so disappointed. And people will say, well, nobody liked the tower when it was first built, but I think people love it now the way it is, besides it will just give parisians another reason to complain, they hated the lightshow thing and now they will complain about this (and this really is going too far). It's not as though tourism is stalling..so..why? It made me feel sad!

Hi Barbara,
Yeh.... What the heck is up with that? I just showed it to Alex and he said, "Nice photo montage." He thought it wasn't real and asked if it is April Fool's day. Hahahah... He didn't like it much either!

Hi Tig- It's sad, they have a good thing going with that TE! Why change a good thing? It will look like an eyesore with that chapeau on the top... maybe it's supposed to be a French beret!!! ;) -Leesa

This thing is spreading like the plague on the web, but I'm pretty much sure it's a hoax and/or a publicity stunt from the architecture company that is supposedly going to do it.

Such a thing would be very public, talked about, discussed everywhere in France (like any new major architectural project in Paris (think The Pyramid and the Orsay museum in the 80's, the Quai Branly museum more recently))...

So how come it's talked about only on the web...
Leesa, I'm very curious about what they said on Telematin...

(and personally, I'm in favor of tearing the tower down completely... I'm tired that the main and sometimes only thing so many foreigners care about in my country is a piece of steel).

Hi David,

It's totally possible that it's a hoax, but I did find a better source (it's in French and I haven't read all of it yet) so if you figure it out, let me know, as I don't like to perpetuate hoaxes!

My hub. read part of it and says it's only a temp. alteration. Personally, I am not a fan of the TE, there are so many other beautiful things in France. I like the falises in Cassis, myself. I don't feel that attracted or attached or to a big steel structure so I am with you on that one.. But, I do think that the ET is definitely Paris' most famous landmark, oh heck, you said it, France's most famous landmark... I am more of a nature person- I think the sunflower fields of Toulouse should be named France's famous landmark... Leesa :)

Yeah, I've read a bunch about it for the past few days... but always from the same and only source that is the company's website.

For such a thing to happen, there must be a public contest, that they say then won... except that I really doubt the mainstream media would keep silent about it if there had been such a contest (once again, remember all the "great projects" of the 80's and 90's in Paris).

And yeah, I second you about the South West sunflower fields, but I'm biased.

Thanks for checking that out for me! It makes the most sense, since it's SUCH a huge change. This a.m. on Tele Matin... I didn't catch the whole thing, though, they just showed the structure with the proposed changes and interviewed a few people in front of the TE asking what they thought of the new design. No one liked it, of course. For the tournesols, I am biased, too, as they are my fav. flowers and also we are trying to get out of 92 and head down south to Toulouse, my hubby's dream city! I much prefer the countryside to the city, but I grew up in L.A. so you can see why I prefer the countryside!!! -Leesa :)
